South west of Birmingham. An industrial town famous for carpet-making. The parish church has fine 15th century tombs. Sir Rowland Hill, who introduced the penny post, was born here. Terminus of the Severn Valley Railway, and on the Staffordshire and Worcester Canal designed by Brinkley.
