Trowbridge Eighteen miles southeast of Bath. County town and the centre of the Wiltshire cloth industry since Plantaganet times. It had a castle but no trace of remains. In the churchyard there is a monument to a nineteen year old executed in 1803 for taking part in a riot when the power looms were introduced to the town. Isaac Pitman who invented shorthand was born here. The poet Crabbe is buried in the Church, where he was rector.
