A flourishing town rising steeply from the banks of the Hebble. The Piece Hall is a huge 18th century colonnaded cloth mart, now home for museums, galleries, crafts, antiques and markets. Other attractions include the fine Shibden Hall Folk Museum, Eureka! Children's interactive museum and the Calderdale Industrial Museum located in vast Moorside Mills. Daniel Defoe once lived here. To the south is Sowerby Bridge where the Rochdale and Calder and Hebble canals meet.
