Neath - Six miles east of Swansea. Formerly a big colliery town, with a very ancient castle that was strengthened by the Normans, but destroyed in 1231. A gateway with drum towers still stands. The 12th century Cistercian Abbey walls are also well preserved and railway line. A canal is built up the Vale of Neath, a very scenic valley. To the north are the Aberdulais Falls and the Cefin Coed Colliery Museum. While to the east is the Welsh Miners Museum at Afan Argoed Country Park. Port Talbot - Important industrial centre to east of Swansea, with a major steel works. Close by are mountains, over looking this coast, which includes Margam sands and the resort of Aberavon.
