Situated on the North Downs, the attractive town of Reigate has a long history. With roots in the Bronze Age, the area has been inhabited for many centuries. In times gone by a Norman Castle dominated the town, but it was neglected following the Civil War. Now little remains apart from the grounds and a cave system which was under the castle.

Reigate Priory, founded in the 1200s, is now a Grade 1 listed building housing the Priory School. There is also a museum on the site, with exhibitions about local history, and domestic and costume displays.
