Welcome to Chertsey's Townpage
Once the location of a fine abbey which was destroyed by the Danes, Chertsey is an attractive town on the River Thames. A splendid seven-arched bridge crosses the river, and provides one of the many points of interest in this historic town. St Peters Church is home to the local legend of Blanche Heriot - who saved her lover’s life by hanging from the bell so that curfew which signaled his execution could not be rung - and dates back to before the 13th century. Abraham Cowley, the noted poet, lived in Chertsey for two years.Just outside the town is the popular attraction Thorpe Park, which is a great place to spend a day having fun.
