Rotherham

Rotherham is an important industrial and commercial town to the north east of Sheffield. Situated at the meeting point of the Don and the Rother, it has a long history, with prehistoric settlements having been found in the area. It has a fine church, notable for its woodwork, Jacobean pulpit and ancient font. Other examples of Rotherham’s religious heritage include the ruins of Roche Abbey, founded in the 12th century.

Following a town centre initiative in 1995, Rotherham has been greatly improved for shoppers, and the Centenary Market has undergone major re-development. Away from the town, there is some lovely countryside around, including the Rother Valley Country Park, where you can simply go for a stroll or enjoy something more active, like watersports or cycling.
