County Guide - almost every destination in the UK

Girvan - Sea/freshwater fishing and good sandy beaches have helped Girvan establish itself as a popular tourist resort. Once a sheltered fishing village it was brought to life with the arrival of the railway. Ailsa Craig is a prominent landmark offshore, over 1000ft high and a popular nesting ground for birds.

Maybole - 12 miles south of Ayr on the west coast is the market town of Maybole, once the capital of the Carrick district. Weaving and shoe making are the main industries in the town. The restored Maybole Castle dates back to the 17th century and stands in the High Street. The ruined collegiate church, founded in 1371, became the burial chapel for the Earl of Cassillis.

Prestwick - The town is famous for the Open Golf Championship, held here in 1860. This popular golfing resort stretches as far south as Ayr. Other attractions of the area include the 12th century St Nicholas Church and the international civic airport, now eclipsed by Glasgow Airport. Great views of the mountains of Arran can be seen across the Firth of Clyde.

Troon - Past industries have included boat building and coal (the coal-port transported to Ireland). The 4th Duke of Portland built Troon Harbour here in the 18th century. Today, Troon is known as a seaside town with its sandy beaches and numerous golf courses. Offshore lies the bird sanctuary of Lady Isle.
