A delightful agricultural town once well-known for its cross (of nursery-rhyme fame), the original of which was destroyed by the Puritans. Fragments of the Norman Castle still remain. Ye Olde Reindeere Inn is Tudor, and Banbury Cakes are still sold at a shop that dates from 1616.
