Nottingham Nottingham

Known as ‘The Queen of the Midlands’, Nottingham is an attractive city that stands over the Trent. It has a long and fascinating history and was a town of considerable importance in ealier times. The famous castle is now a City Museum and Art Gallery.

Legend has it that the infamous Robin Hood and his merry men hid in nearby Sherwood Forest from where they launched daring raids on the city’s rich in order to feed the poor. The legend lives on in the city with any number of attractions devoted to the outlaw and his followers.

Nottingham is also home to two established football clubs, Nottingham Forest and Notts County and one of the countries finest cricket grounds at Trent Bridge. Also nearby is the Holme Pierrepoint National Water Sports Centre.

The city was previously famous for its lace-making and something of the industry survives to this day at the lace market. Although Nottingham is regarded as a relatively modern city, it is also proud of its history. Nottingham also enjoys a literary heritage having once been home to both Lord Byron and D.H. Lawrence.
