Welcome to Mansfield's Townpage

Mansfield is an ancient town and is mentioned in the Domesday Book. It has been a market town for hundreds of years, and there is still a large market there today. Industries such as brewing, quarrying and coal-mining were all prevalent in the town, and contributed to its growth.

The history of the town and its surroundings can be explored at the local museum. There is also an art gallery on the premises, with permanent and temporary displays of local work. The Making It! Discovery Centre looks at the town’s industrial history, and has lots of opportunities for hands-on fun. Near the town is Byron’s beautiful home, Newstead Abbey, which is a former medieval priory set in 300 acre grounds.

There are a number of attractive parks in Mansfield, ideal for summer walks and games. Carr Bank Park is a picturesque walled park, and there is also Titchfield Park in the town centre and Berry Hill Park, which is home to an athletics track.
