Selby Twelve miles south of York. An attractive town, with market place and Georgian buildings, on the Ouse, Selby has in its town centre a magnificent Norman Abbey 300 feet long and 60 feet wide. Construction started in 1100 and was complete by 1340. Believed Henry I was born here in 1068. Selby is an active port on the Ouse. It is also part of the largest new coalfield in Europe, if not the World. Drax, to the south east, is the biggest coal fired power station in Europe.
