Welcome to Harrogate's Townpage

Harrogate can be found in North Yorkshire in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, and surrounded by beautiful countryside, the district has been the filming location of the televisions series’ Heartbeat, Country Vets and Emmerdale, as well as the films Jayne Eyre and Chariots of Fire.

Prior to the 16th Century , what was to become Harrogate consisted of a number of isolated farming hamlets in the forest of Knaresborogh, but from 1571 onwards a number of wells and springs were found to have medicinal qualities, and were soon attracting visitors to the area. In 1770, the forest of Knaresborough was protected by the Enclosure Act and remains one of the most attractive features of Harrogate.

With the Royal Baths Assembly Rooms built in 1897, Harrogate Theatre in 1901 and the beautiful 1,300 Royal Hall in 1903, Harrgote retains much of the grandeur of this period, but the recent development of the International Centre has brought the town up to date and is complimented by the many museums, national parks and visitor centre’s in the area, making Harrogate an attractive place to visit.
