Liverpool Liverpool

This cosmopolitan city has a wealth of attractions and is rich in heritage and culture. Home to Liverpool Football Club, and the Tate Gallery, and birthplace of The Beatles, the centre is alive with theatres, clubs and restaurants which draw both young and old to the city. Across the Mersey, the Wirral Peninsula offers contrasting rural tranquility with over 2000 acres of unspoilt countryside.

Although extensively bombed during the Second World War, many of Liverpool’s historic buildings remain in tact. William Brown Street is home to a number of imposing public buildings, including the Liverpool Museum, Walker Art Gallery, which has the best collection of pictures in provincial England, and Central Libraries. The Town Hall is the jewel of Liverpool’s historic buildings and St Georges Hall, known for it’s grandeur is widely regarded as the finest neo-classical building in Europe. The circular Catholic Cathedral was consecrated in 1907, while the Anglican cathedral completed in 1978 is the largest in Britain.
