Spalding A prosperous farming and flower-growing town on the Welland twelve miles inland from the Wash. Spalding, like Wisbech, became a wealthy town when the draining of the fens produced such fertile land. This largely Georgian town is the centre of the flower growing industry, celebrated by a major May Day Parade. The church is old and picturesque, and near it is a 15th century Dutch gabled red-brick hall, called Ayscoughfee Hall which is a local history museum telling the story of the draining and reclamation of the fens.
