Boston On a river four miles up stream from the Wash. One of the most fascinating towns or ports in England. Famous for its high steeple, th' Owd Stoomp " (which stands 288 feet above the river Witham), its magnificent Parish Church, St. Botolph's, 15th century Guildhall (where the Pilgrim Fathers were imprisoned, which is now a museum), large market, and medieval quays and narrow streets. John Foxe, author of the "Book of Martyrs", was born here in 1517.
