Town Guide - almost every destination in the UK
Preston Preston

Preston rests in the heart of Lancashire and is the administrative capital for the county. The town has a fascinating history. It was burnt by the Scots in 1322, taken and re-taken in the Civil War, and Cromwell fought a battle here in 1648. In 1715 the Jacobite army captured it, and then surrendered it, and in 1745 Prince Charlie passed through it twice in a fortnight. Both Old & Young Pretenders were proclaimed King here. In addition, it is the birthplace of Richard Arkwright who in 1769 perfected the first powered spinning wheel.

There is much for the visitor to see and do in and around Preston. Sport-lovers will enjoy the recently opened Football Museum and younger visitors are sure to want to visit Camelot Theme Park. You may also wish to enjoy some of the beautiful countryside around Preston – like the Ribble Valley, or Beacon Fell Country Park.
