Town Guide - almost every destination in the UK
Dover Dover

Well-known in the south of England for its easy access to France, Dover is a town rich in history. A thriving port in Roman times, remains such as the Roman Painted House and the Pharos can be viewed today. Throughout the centuries Dover has proved an invaluable gateway to the Continent, but as such, was at great risk during the First and Second World Wars. Underground military barracks have survived and been preserved for visitors, and of course there will always be the reminder of the white cliffs through the famous wartime song.

There are many places of interest around Dover, both ancient and modern. Dover Castle is built on the site of an Iron Age Hill Fort, and has developed over a period of 900 years. The beautiful Pines Garden covers 6 acres and has a lovely view of the white cliffs, and if you enjoy the great outdoors, there are many attractive places for walking around the local countryside.
