Goole Small town on the River Humber some seventy miles up stream from the mouth. Town largely dates from 1820 and became an important port when the Aire and Calder canal made it its eastern terminus, with docks, locks, cranes and canal basins. In addition the canalised River Ouse joins the Humber at this point - which meant that coal and textiles could be transhipped and sent down into East Anglia. There is a local museum. The M62 passes a short way to the west where also lies the important Drax power stations.
