Welcome to Watford's Townpage

Hertfordshire’s largest town, Watford is a bustling and prosperous place set on the outskirts of Greater London. Euston is only 20 minutes away by train, making it the perfect commuter spot. The town is centered around a pedestrianised high street, bordered with a variety of retail outlets, and the large shopping centre built a few years ago adds to Watford’s commercial appeal.

Traditionally known for the printing and brewing trades, indeed the town museum is in the former head office of Benskin's Brewery, Watford has a long history. Records of the town date back to the 10th century. The area was mainly agricultural for many centuries, although there were a variety of trades undertaken in Watford itself. The Earls of Essex had a large house ‘Cassiobury Park’, which is now a golf course and public park beside the Grand Union Canal, which was cut through the park in such a way as to form one of the most attractive stretches of canal in Britain.

One of the most famous exports of the town has to be Watford FC. Their stadium resides in the south side of the town and they have a wide local and national following, as do the Saracens – Watford’s well-known rugby team.
