Tring Tring rests in the Chilterns, and is to the very west of the county of Hertfordshire. This historic market town is now largely residential. Significant factors affecting the town’s development over the centuries have included the canal and the Rothschild family, who did many generous works. The family mansion is now a school, but another legacy in the town is the Walter Rothschild Zoological Museum, on Akeman Street (a Roman Road). The museum is home to many displays and specimens, some of which are very rare. Out and about the town of Tring there are some lovely open spaces to enjoy. Tring Park was previously part of the parkland surrounding Tring Manor, but is now owned by the borough council and is a brilliant place for a relaxing walk. The local reservoirs are a haven for wildlife, with many varieties of waterfowl, wild flowers and insect life to see. A short distance away from the town is Pitstone Windmill, believed to be the oldest windmill in Britain.
