Hertford A pleasant, county town with an ancient history. Here Alfred defeated the Danes and Robert the Bruce was held prisoner. Charles Lamb, Coleridge and Leigh Hunt were pupils of Christ's Hospital, now a girls' school. Norman Castle and oldest Quaker Meeting House still in use.
