Matthew Aspinall

Handyman East London...

Matthew Aspinall is a local handyman East London. I am an experienced handyman who has completed a wide range of projects so I have a great base of knowledge to draw from. A big advantage of using my services is that no matter what work you require, it is likely I will have worked on something similar before.

Work that I regularly undertake includes construction projects that cover laying a new wall or creating a feature for the garden. Specialist projects that have included creating lean-to sheds from salvaged materials and wood. Flat pack assembly (where I always carry a selection of screws, fittings etc to avoid the problem of 1 piece missing at the end of assembling).

I also have a great deal of experience building and fitting cabinets, cupboards and shelves. Flooring is another area of expertise and I can recommend on both laminates and solid flooring. Finally, as an avid cyclist I will also carry out cycle repairs to the highest of standards. No matter what you want, Matthew Aspinall will be able to help.

I am even a time served carpenter (was taught by my Dad) and can work on custom made furniture — free standing & fitted — and will specialise in making antique looking furniture or furniture to suit older houses. Sympathetic designs include using reclaimed materials and original restoration work.

A quick list of work includes:

  • Tree Houses
  • Soft landscaping
  • Kitchen fitting
  • Shelving
  • Flat packs
  • Sash windows
  • Door hanging
  • Children's Tree House
  • Play Houses
  • General handyman
  • Laminate flooring

Please ask for Matthew when calling, we are a family run business that prides ourselves on fast response, reliable, trustworthy service and I am even police checked for your peace of mind. Treehouse Information

IMPROVING THE WORLD ONE TREEHOUSE AT A TIME!

Matthew Aspinall started his own carpentry business three years ago but has now decided to focus exclusively on building tree and play houses. "I've met a lot of great people doing this job and I've realised that the thing I like best about it is how I can improve peoples' lives. It might seem like a small thing to put up some shelves but give a person who likes to cook shelves in the kitchen in the right place, at the right price, and you've got a happy customer."

Matthew was asked to build a treehouse in April last year for a family with two little boys, aged six and three and a half. "When I finished the job, I realised it had been one of the best weeks of my life. Seeing the looks on those boys' faces when they saw their treehouse was priceless. It was especially great because every day, the boys rushed home from school to help with the project, so they felt like they had been a part of making it."

It was getting feedback from those boys that helped Matthew design and build a treehouse they loved. In order to get more ideas from children on what makes the best treehouse, he is now offering to donate his time to create the perfect play area for a local charity or playgroup in need. "I figured that if I was able to work with a group serving a large number of children, I would be able to get more feedback than on the average job and be able to improve my designs more quickly."

Matthew lives in the Well Street area with his wife Sara. He had a aried career before starting his business, serving five years in the Army including two years in Northern Ireland before working as a cycle courier and DJ amongst other jobs. But he decided a few years ago to make use of the carpentry skills his father taught him when he was growing up. "My dad was a carpenter but when he started working, you had to do four years as an apprentice. That kind of training isn't common anymore but I take pride in my work, do my best no matter how small the job is. And I know my dad is proud of that. But now I want to do more with my skills."

The idea to build a treehouse/playhouse business came from watching his son Sean, who was born three and a half months' premature. "Watching Sean grow up, I've realised how important stimulating, adventurous play is for young children. One of the best things that has helped Sean progress has been learning to climb, how to use his body... it's done him a world of good."

Matthew looked online to check out London companies building treehouses and play areas. "There were only a few companies and they had fantastic designs but most of them were £5,000 and up. I realised there was a market for reasonably priced but still interesting and adventurous play spaces."

Groups that are interested in finding out more about Matthews' offer should contact him on matthew@bespokecraftsman.com. Building materials will need to be donated but Matthew will design and build the tree or play house for free, working with the group to create something that is just right for the children's needs. Families interested in commissioning a play space can also get more information by emailing, or phoning 07902 781640.
