Pontypool Nine miles north of Newport. A colliery centre, market and manufacturing town in a deep valley, with good scenery. Famous for the manufacture of japanned goods. ‘The Valley Inheritance' is a fine exhibition on the industrial heritage of the South Wales Valleys, part of the Torfaen Trail of History. Nearby is the Big Pit Mining Museum up the valley at Blaenavon and the Junction Cottage Canal Centre on the Brecon Centre.
