Town Guide - almost every destination in the UK
Stockport

A major Metropolitan Borough on the Mersey, Stockport is one of Cheshire’s most northern towns with the lights of Manchester only seven miles away. A floodlit viaduct (the largest brick-built structure in Europe) carries the Manchester-London train line across the Mersey valley. The town occupies an excellent commercial location with easy access to the regional and national road network. Consequently it has attracted a diverse commercial and industrial portfolio with an estimated 2000 businesses, excluding shops, now trading in the area.

Shoppers are catered for by one of the region’s premier precincts, Merseyway as well as a number of quieter out of town parades and a 750 year-old market.

Among the many attractions within Stockport's boundaries are Bramhall Hall,Chadkirk Chapel in Romiley; St Mary's Parish Church in the Market Place, underground air raid shelters in the town centre, Stockport Museum and Lyme park.
