Stroud

Six miles south of Gloucester. Formerly the cloth-making centre of the West Country, in the picturesque setting of a narrow ravine at the western edge of the Cotswolds. Famous for the production of cloth for military uniforms. Still a handful of mills in production. Five lovely valleys converge on it, one of them called the ‘Golden Valley' with the Thames and Severn Valley Canal making its descent. Nearby on coast of Severn is Slimbridge Trust Wildfowl Observatory. Elizabethan Town Hall, and old cloth mills.
