South Benfleet, together with neighbouring Hadleigh have been constructed on the low hills which overlook the Benfleet Creek and Canvey Island on the north side of the Thames Estuary. Surmounting the two settlements is an ancient and powerful 13-14th century castle which provides superb views overthis part of the coast.
