Crowborough

Set on the highest point of East Sussex and offering fantastic views, Crowborough is a relatively new town, springing from the parish of Rotherfield, and only developing its independence in 1905. It is a large town with many amenities, and makes a perfect stop-off point during an exploration of the Sussex countryside. Ashdown Forest is nearby, and is a beautiful place for walking, also not too far away is the traffic-free Cuckoo Trail.

Crowborough was once home to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the famous author and creator of Sherlock Holmes, and there is an annual festival in the town devoted to his popular detective.
