Dundee Dundee, the City of Discovery lies on the northern shore of the Firth of Tay in the Middle Valley of East Scotland. In the middle ages, the town became established as a fishing, tradin As a natural harbour, situated at the bottom of Dundee Law, an extinct volcano; the town’s shipping and manufacturing industries greatly prospered, and by the 19th century the Tay Bridge was built across the Firth of Tay to support these booming industries. During a severe storm the following year the centre part of the bridge collapsed while a train was crossing with great loss of life. The current rail bridge was completed in 1887, however parts of the original bridge are still visible. For a long period Dundee gained the reputation as an area of depression but today has much to offer both visitors and those who live in the city. A number of castles occupy the area and are complimented by open countryside and a beautiful marina, and the museums,Royal Research Ship Discovery and HM Frigate Unicorn make a great day out for all.
