This town existed before the Normans introduced their feudal system. There is a glorious Saxon Priory Church with late Perpendicular and Early English additions. The monuments are numerous and interesting. Good fishing and boating in the rivers Avon and Stour, which converge in Christchurch Harbour. Excellent local museum near quay.
