DerbyTwelve miles west of Nottingham. A very busy and attractive Cathedral city, and an important railway centre. Once a Roman station and later an important stronghold of the Danes. It was the furthest south of Prince Charles Edward's venture in 1745. The first silk mill in England was built here by John Combe in I7I7; it was also the first factory in Britain and now houses an industrial museum. Town also has arboretum which was first public park. Visitor centre for Royal Crown Derby Pottery. Nearby attractions include National Trust, Kedleston Hall and Elvaston Castle Country Park.
