Crossroads Counselling Service Farnborough
Maria Smith BA (Hons) Couns. MBACP Accredited and UKRCP Registered Independent Counsellor
I am a qualified counsellor with experience of working in the NHS, Detox / Rehab, large charitable organisations and schools.
I offer counselling for adults and young people, plus non directive play therapy where the emphasis is not on the spoken language for children.
I understand that making contact for the first time can be a difficult step to take and you may be unsure about what to expect from counselling. However, you do not have to pay for the first appointment of 30 minutes, and you will not be tied into anything. We can use the session to establish whether counselling is the appropriate form of support for you and / or whether we can work together and to see if you feel comfortable with the counselling process.
After that, if you decide to proceed, we would meet weekly for a 50 minute session and progress is monitored together. We would decide jointly when the counselling will end so that we have time to bring things to a close.
My approach is integrative and I therefore have various theoretical models to draw upon, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), to best suit an individual’s needs.
I regularly work with a cross section of people wanting to help themselves with all sorts of problems. Some of these include Depression and Anxiety, suffering Traumatic Events, ongoing, recent or past Abuse, Rape, Bereavement and Self Confidence issues.
Counselling is increasingly seen as a positive step in taking care of yourself. It can help you to make sense of things that trouble you and help to identify changes you wish to make in your life. It can help you to see the problems you are experiencing in a different light, enabling you to take the necessary action to effect some change. Counselling helps you to develop inner strength, find your own individual solutions, and feel secure in yourself.
