Common Clutch Problems

1) Slip – this is normally caused by issues with the friction plate. In most cases, the friction plate will be worn or it has oil on it, causing loss of drive or the car to move slower than normal.

2) If the car makes a juddering noise when you move away from a resting position, it is likely there are issues with the friction plate or the engine or gearbox’s mounts have broken.

3) Drag – most commonly experienced when trying to access first or reverse gear, drag is where the clutch cable is no longer set at the correct adjustment or the centre plate is sticking.

4) Fierceness – where you experience a sudden move off of the vehicle, even when the clutch is released gradually. There can be many causes of this, from the clutch arm to issues with the engine/gearbox alignment
