Macclesfield

Macclesfield is situated south of Manchester in the county of Cheshire. Originally the home of the silk industry, this ancient town was once a leading silk manufacturing town in England with a legacy of 18th and early 19th century mills for which the Paradise Mill Museum and Heritage Museum tell the story.

This ancient town is full of character with old mills to steep sloping streets. The steepest street of all is formed by 108 steps that lead up to the town’s oldest medieval church, St Michael and All Angels founded by Edward I.

Historic buildings including Gawsworth Hall and Macclesfield Town Hall can be found throughout the county and are compliemented by the backdrop of country parks and scenic routes in the area.
