St Neots

St. Neots is a pleasant market town, close to Cambridge, founded by Benedictine monks in the 10th Century when they built their priory here. St. Neots is said to have been King Alfred’s advisor who was buried in Cornwall, and it is possible that the monks stole his bones for their new priory. Today the town centers around a spacious market place which dates back to the 12th Century, and there are many Georgian, Tudor and Victorian buildings scattered throughout the town including Brook House and the Victorian vicarage in Church Street.

The town lies to the South West corner of Cambridgeshire on the great River Ouse, which runs alongside the Riverside Park, a central point for boating, picnicing and walks. The beautiful scenery surrounding the town and the historical bridges, including the 12th Century bridge that links the Market Square with the Riverside, are charming visitor attractions, particularly in the summer months.

Steeped in history there are many historical sites in the area including St. Neots Museum, Priory Park and the ancient Cathedral of Huntingdonshire, the town landmark.
