Biggleswade - Town which was an old coaching stop on the Great North Road some ten miles south east of Bedford. Now bypassed and subject to improvement schemes. Many historic pubs and town hall built in 1814. Great attraction nearby at Old Warden - Shuttleworth collection of historic aeroplanes which are flown on Sundays (first in month) in summer.

Leighton Buzzard - Eight miles west of Luton. An ancient picturesque market town with a fine market cross and 13th century church. At Mentmore is the palatial former home of the Rothschilds (not open to the public). Narrow gauge preserved railway.
